Middlebury College Cane Society

The Gamaliel Painter’s Cane Society recognizes Middlebury alumni, parents and friends who support the college by including Middlebury in their estate plans.

Gamaliel Painter helped found Middlebury College and left a bequest that saved the fledgling school. He also bequeathed his steel-tipped walking stick with a deep blue ribbon, a replica of which each graduating Middlebury student receives.

Our multimedia campaign included a print mailer, HTML emails, and targeted class-based letters from notable alumni. The theme “Shape the Future, Honor the Tradition” places the emphasis on upcoming alumni while respecting the tradition and prestige of Middlebury’s history.
